Logic Bombs

Logic Bombs are a type of malware that is "activated" when a specific condition is satisfied. When this condition is satisfied, the actual payload of the malware is released. An example of a logic bomb condition could be a specific date or time. Another example could be a specific user action.

A famous example of a logic bomb is the Stuxnet worm. The Stuxnet attack was created by the United States and Israeli Intelligence and aimed to sabotage Iran's nuclear program. When the Stuxnet worm detected that it was running on a computer that was part of a uranium treatment facility, the payload was activated. The malware brought Iran's nuclear program to a halt and is a great example of an Advanced Persistent Threat attack.
